The crisp coolness of the autumn air, fun filled times at the country fairs and the orange, yellow and red colours of the leaves all tell us that the season is about to change again. Join us as we travel through the New England States of Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire and New York, with 3 nights by the ocean.

Day 1 – Albany, New York

(Sat) – Today will be a day of rest and relaxation as we greet fellow quilters as they arrive. We will all meet in the evening for a welcome dinner.

Day 2 – Hildene, The Lincoln Family Home, Vermont

(Sun) – Our adventure awaits!  Albany is the capital of New York State. On our way to our first destination, we will drive through the downtown core where you can view some of the most exquisite buildings, before heading northeast to the home of Abraham Lincoln and his wife, Mary’s only surviving son, Robert Lincoln. Robert was the first born and only child of the Lincolns to survive till adulthood. In 1905, Robert and his wife built a Georgian Revival mansion and called it, Hildene. After time spent on a self-guided tour of the grounds and the estate, we will head to the small rural town of Weston.  Here we will stop at the local Vermont Country General Store which is unlike any general store we have ever seen. Take your time to browse and shop in this very unique place.

Day 3 – Woodstock, Vermont & Canterbury Shaker Village, New Hampshire

(Mon) – Woodstock, Vermont is a beautiful, historic, turn of the century town, in the Green Mountains of Windsor County. With its three covered bridges, fabulous restaurants, charming boutiques and shops, it waits for us to explore.  We will spend the morning in Woodstock before we head onto New Hampshire’s Canterbury Shaker Village.  Canterbury Shaker Village is one of the most intact and authentic surviving Shaker community sites and has been declared a National Historic Landmark. Here you can enjoy a trip back in time. Later we will head to the coast of Maine where we will spend the next three days and nights by the ocean.

Day 4 – New England Quilt Museum, Lowell, Massachusetts

(Tues) – Be prepared to be blown away by the beauty of the area’s finest quilts as we visit The New England Quilt Museum. The afternoon we will spend time shopping at a local quilt shop. Such excitement. After a busy day with lots of walking, it will be nice to head back to the hotel and enjoy a typical Maine Lobster Bake Dinner.

Day 5 – Historic District Kennebunkport, Maine

(Wed) – Today we will visit the Nubble Lighthouse, an excellent photo opportunity and spend most of the day and lunch in the resort town of Kennebunkport. Take your time to stroll and explore artisan shops, outdoor cafes and fun seaside pleasures.  This evening, we will enjoy a trunk show and tell by our guest speaker, Sue Michaels, owner of Dragonfly Fiberart Pattern Company. You may even like to purchase some of her patterns.

Day 6 – Castle in the Clouds, New Hampshire

(Thurs) – After boarding the bus, we will leave the Maine Atlantic Coast behind and head to visit a beautiful quilt shop in the port city of Portsmouth. With lots of bolts to look at, you will feel like you are in a quilter’s heaven. Our goodies in hand, we will continue north for a tour of the Castle in the Clouds.  A 20th century Arts and Craft architectural estate that sits high in the sky. You will be in awe of these 6300 acres, 16 room home with spectacular views, admiring the beautiful New England countryside. From here, we will head to North Conway for a quick stop and on through the mountains, where we will stay the night.

Day 7 – Goodrich Maple Sugar Farm

(Fri) – Mountainous beauty surrounds us this morning as we travel around the White Mountain Region, heading west where we will make a stop at another local quilt shop before heading onto one of the sweetest places in Vermont, the Goodrich Maple Syrup Farm.  Enjoy a tour of the sugarhouse, where we will learn a historical and humorous explanation of the maple process going from trees to table, all the while surrounded by the sweet, sweet smell of maple syrup. We will go from delicious to another kind of delicious, another quilt shop before heading to our hotel where we will stay the next 2 nights.

Day 8 – Shelburne Museum, Vermont

(Sat) – One of the most spectacular places to visit and cannot be missed is the Shelburne Museum. We will try to spend as much time as possible here as there is a lot to see. Spread over 45 acres, it boasts to have a quilt collection that is considered to be the largest in the United States. The Shelburne Museum is the first museum to exhibit quilts as a work of art, with ones dating back as early 1800’s. After a quick bite to eat at the museum, we will head a little north for a stop at our final quilt shop.

 Day 9 – Lake George Boat Cruise, Vermont

(Sun) – Rise & shine for an early start as we wind through the countryside to the shores of Lake George. We will board and enjoy a champagne luncheon cruise on the Lac du Saint Sacrement while viewing the changing hillsides of Vermont.

Day 10 – Say Good bye

(Mon) – After a fabulous 10 days, it will be time to share breakfast together one last time before we leave New England to return home and tell others of our wild but fun adventures.
