October is a month that has its own special charm. The cool autumn air, country fairs, and giving thanks for all that surround us, family and friends.  Join us as we view one of the Natural Wonders of the World – Niagara Falls and tantalize our taste buds with good food from Mennonite country and quilt conversations with one of Canada’s finest designers, Sherri Hisey. We will shop and explore South Western Ontario, Creativ Festival (one of the largest DIY Craft Shows) and wine region of the beautiful Niagara on the Lake.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival – Mississauga, Toronto, Ontario

(Wed) – Today is full of excitement and anticipation as we greet fellow quilters as they arrive. We will all meet in the evening for a welcome dinner.

Day 2 – “Creativ Festival – Sew, Knit, Bead, Stitch, Quilt, Scrapbook & More

(Thurs) – Some retail therapy will start the tour off on the right foot. We will spend most of the day visiting the Fall Creativ Festival 2020 – Canada’s Largest DIY Consumer Craft Show. After an exciting time at the show, we will head to our first quilt shop and if we are not all exhausted, we can show off our special purchases while on route to our overnight hotel.

Day 3 – Sip and Shop

(Fri) – This morning we will head to our next quilt shop for another fabric fix.  We will slow the pace down and take a trip through the rolling countryside of Brant County, past the picturesque horse farms and into the charming village of Mount Pleasant where we will enjoy the taste of a delicious lunch at a favourite destination of many. After lunch we will make our way to a different kind of winery, have a tour and be shown how the lavender is prepared for infusion. We will also experience lavender infused wine.  Oh so good!

Day 4 – Cheese Please!

(Sat) – This morning we will travel to several more fantastic quilt shops in the area. Did you know that South Western Ontario, Oxford County is “The Dairy Capital of Canada”? With that being said, we will spend the afternoon touring and tasting at an artisan cheese factory.

Day 5 – Stratford, Ontario

(Sun) – Today we will spend our time in Stratford, a city on the Avon River that was established in the early 1830’s. You will have time to visit the beautiful shops and we will hear a historical talk and have a museum tour of the area.

Day 6 – St. Jacobs, Ontario

(Mon) – Onto the Village of St. Jacobs, a beloved destination steeped in history and set in a charming location along the Conestoga River. It’s a community known for originality and its dozens of independent, one-of-a-kind shops. St Jacobs is also located in the heart of Mennonite country and even today you can see the Mennonites travelling the roads by horse and buggy. Before we reach St Jacobs, we will venture to another quilt shop and for dinner we will enjoy a wonderful meal at the famous Stone Crock Restaurant. In the evening, we will be amazed by the gorgeous designs of Canadian Designer Sherry Hisey, owner of Border Creek Station as she presents “A Journey of A Quilter”

Day 7 – Mennonite Quilt and Farm Tour, St Jacobs, Ontario

(Tues) – This morning we will have a guided tour of a true Mennonite farm. Heading to the farm, you will be introduced to the Mennonite people, including their history, different groups in the area and their beliefs. We will have lunch at Anna Mae’s Bakery & Restaurant where all the food is deliciously prepared by the Amish before heading to another quilt shop. We will then leave this area behind and head for our two night stay in the Niagara Region.

Day 8 – Niagara Falls, Butterfly Conservatory & Laura Secord

(Wed) – Today will start with free time to explore and view Clifton Hill and one of the Natural Wonders of the World – Niagara Falls. Lots of photo opportunities. From there we will head to the Butterfly Conservatory. Beautiful colours of nature will surround and land on us as we walk through the conservatory. Later we will visit the Historical Homestead of Laura Secord, a Canadian heroine from the War of 1812 and maybe even get to treat ourselves to some chocolate and ice cream.

Day 9 – Niagara on the Lake

(Thurs) Niagara on the Lake is a beautiful, historic, town located on the shores of Lake Ontario. Known for the Shaw Festival, charming boutiques and shops, it awaits for us to explore. We will spend a good part of the day there, enjoying lunch before we head off to our final quilt shop and a possible wine tasting and a farewell dinner.

Day 10 – Farewell

After breakfast, all good things must come to an end. We say so long to our new friends and head home to start our fabulous finds quilting projects and tell others of the good time we had.
